Matt Wanner is half of the 7th generation operating Wanner’s Pride and Joy Dairy on land in Lancaster County that was originally deeded to William Penn. In partnership with his brother, John and father, Alfred, Matt is the dairy manager for the operation with responsibility for directing all animal nutrition, reproduction, health and welfare protocols, milk quality and cleaning protocols for their 700 mature cows and equal number of young stock.
Matt and his family have been leaders on cow care and environmental stewardship, demonstrating success with their methane digester and other BMPs to manage 1,400 head of livestock and 750 acres in crops. Most recently, the farm has expanded their milk hauling business to include commodity and over the road trucking, providing an opportunity for the next generation’s interests.
Matt was Chair of the 2010 PA Dairy Summit and has been recognized with the Pacesetter Award and Master Farmer Recognition. He is a past member of the PA Dairy Stakeholders. Matt and his wife Tamera are raising four children; Ethan, Aidan, Annika and Adia, all under eleven years of age, and are active at Grace Family Church, soccer fields and dairy meetings.
