Fall Dairy Issues Forum

Thursday, November 7th - 2013

How do you know when it’s time to expand your dairy operation…or even if you should? Regardless of what kind of business you are in, deciding if you should expand your business...and how, is not easy. At the PDMP November 7the Issue Forum, Tim Kurtz will be joined by his farm profit and transition team members on a panel program in Berks County, PA to share with other dairy producers, the steps required to take an idea to modernize with robotics from start to completion.

The discussion will follow the Kurtland Farm’s progression over a four year period; from deciding to continue to dairy, to assessing their risk with experienced accountants, lenders and consultants.  Then participants will check in with veteran robotics operator, Doyle Waybright from Mason-Dixon Farm to hear how their own expansion has fared several years later.

·  Modernizing for increased production

· Tour new robotic facility

· See how to make the financials work

· Strategies for working with lenders

· What to expect when expanding

· Networking with fellow dairymen

The morning program, to be held at the Caernarvon Township Social Hall in Morgantown, PA will be followed by a networking lunch after which, attendees will tour Kurtland’s new facility to see firsthand how with the help of technology, the dairy is already seeing the benefits of their expansion and use of robots.
