Jared was elected to the PDMP Board of Directors in 2020. He is the 4th generation at Kurtland Farms in Berks County and could not be more confident in a bright future there for the 5th. Kurtland Farms has been in the Kurtz family for 100 years and today milks 315 cows in two facilities, and farms 275 acres. With his father, Tim and two full-time and five part-time employees, Jared works to keep the operation, which includes a free stall barn with 4 Lely robotic milking machines, in which they milk 220 cows, with the remainder of the cows in their original tie stall barn, and corn and rye/triticale in a cover-crop/no till rotation. The Kurtz family has been modeling long-term strategic planning for other PDMP members for many years and have also demonstrated their sincere commitment to educating consumers about the truths in dairy by graciously hosting large community open houses and dairy tours.
Jared earned his Bachelor’s degree from Messiah College in 2010 and returned to the farm in 2014, after working in the tech industry. He has served on the NMPF YC Advisory Council and is actively involved at Hopewell Church in Elverson, PA. He and his wife, Marla live in Elverson with their young sons Jase and Weston and daughter, Selah.
